PV applications
PV systems can either be connected to the public power grid (grid-connected systems) or operated autonomously (stand-alone systems).
Photovoltaics is a technology involving solar cells that transform the sun’s radiation directly into electric energy with zero emissions.
More and more countries deploy the clean, inexpensive power supplied by the sun. Around the world, the addition of installed solar power (photovoltaic or PV) capacity is increasing exponentially. In Switzerland, the industry sector that provides 5600 jobs is steadily gaining importance. Solar energy already covers no less than 4.5% of Swiss power consumption and its contribution is increasing year by year.

Any outdoor surface can be used to generate solar power. In Switzerland, solar systems are most commonly fitted on roofs. However, facades are being used more and more often, as well as unconventional surfaces such as avalanche protection panels or sound protection walls. Solar farms built on free outdoor surfaces are less frequent.
