On November 15th, 2005, the two associations SOLAR (Swiss association for solar energy) and Swissolar (working group for solar energy) decided to consolidate their activities as of 1.1.2006. The intensified activities on the use the solar energy now run under the name Swissolar, the Association of Swiss Solar Energy Professionals.

 

The SOLAR technical association was founded in Berne, Switzerland, on October 25th, 2002  and was operational as of January 1st 2003. Together with its members and partner organisations, it was committed to the sustained growth of the solar energy business. Its head office was in located in Berne.

 

The predecessor to SOLAR was the German-speaking SOFAS (Swiss solar energy technical organisation, founded in 1978) and the French-speaking PROMES (Association of solar energy professionals of western Switzerland, founded in 1986).

 

The Swissolar working group for solar energy was founded in 1994 as an umbrella organisation in the field solar power. It covered various associations in the field of building technical services, the energy sector and solar power and was converted into an association in 1999.
